The Cloud4SAMS project, dedicated to developing a secure digital environment for the analysis of microbiome and health data, has reached a key milestone with its midterm evaluation. This report, submitted in late June 2026, follows the project consortium’s annual meeting, which took place in May 2026 in Villejuif.
The report also highlights several concrete advances, in particular:
- The integration of use cases into the IFB cloud, using applications (appliances) such as MAGNETO (available since December 2025).
- Drafting of a regulatory memorandum on the ethical and regulatory issues surrounding microbiome data, highlighting their potentially identifying nature and proposing actions to address the challenges arising from this finding. It was submitted to the PEPR SAMS management team, as well as to the Ministry (DGRI).
The key events of this midterm evaluation, along with related news articles, are as follows:
- Annual meetings with the ANR and the PEPR SAMS (in October 2025 and May 2026)
- A Workshop on the Various Work Packages (May 2025)
- Participation in the PEPR SAMS 2025 and 2026 events
- A hackathon in November 2025
For the second phase of the project, a key objective has been identified: to move from a proof of concept (POC) to a national infrastructure that is more broadly open to the microbiology community. This transition will also enable:
- Interoperability with existing portals (France Cohortes, Fresh, Health Data Platform);
- strengthening the standardization of metadata for metagenomic data;
- User training through educational modules and hackathons.
