On 15 October 2026, the French Institute of Bioinformatics (IFB/ELIXIR-FR) took part in the seminar ‘From Bench to Bytes: Mastering the Science of Data’, organised by Lesaffre, a global leader in fermentation. The aim of this event was to explore, share and discuss scientific data management – an increasingly important issue as data volumes grow, formats multiply and regulatory requirements become stricter.

Thomas Denecker (IFB/ELIXIR-FR) – Lesaffre Seminar – October 2026

Valentin Loux (Migale Platform) – Lesaffre Seminar – October 2026
At the invitation of Tiphaine Cussac and Pierre Mahé, two representatives from the IFB spoke alongside the teams from Lesaffre:
- Valentin Loux, Technical Manager at Migale, an IFB/ELIXIR-FR member platform, presented SIDURI, an integrated data and analysis portal supporting innovation in fermentation, as part of the Ferments du Futur public-private partnership. The title of his presentation was: ‘SIDURI: an integrated data and analysis portal supporting data-driven innovation in food fermentation’.
- Thomas Denecker, co-leader of the IFB’s Software Tools initiative and co-leader of the madbot project, presented madbot (Metadata And Data Brokering Online Tool), the tool developed by the IFB to help researchers organise, describe and publish their data. Based on international standards, madbot automates much of the work involved in describing data and facilitates its deposit in repositories such as Zenodo or the ENA (European Nucleotide Archive).
This event highlights the value of the tools and practices promoted by IFB/ELIXIR-FR – particularly those centred on the FAIR principles – in meeting the practical needs of both academic and industrial stakeholders, and helps to build a more interconnected data ecosystem.
