The BioHackathon Europe, organised annually by ELIXIR Europe, returns from 9 to 13 November 2026 at Campus Belloch, around 30 minutes from Barcelona, Spain.
This international event brings together researchers, bioinformaticians and developers for an intensive week of collaborative hacking, dedicated to bioinformatics challenges. The projects are centred on the needs of ELIXIR’s Platforms, Communities and Focus Groups, with a particular focus on the FAIR principles, identifiers, metadata standards, ontologies and metadata catalogues.

Eight project proposals put forward by the ELIXIR France teams were submitted this year, and six of them have been shortlisted for the official selection for the 2026 edition:
- Project 6 – Hervé Menager – Implementing Credit and Recognition for Research Outputs Beyond Publications in ELIXIR
- Project 16 – Bérénice Batut et Brieuc Quéméneur – MiCoKnowGraph: Designing a Microbiome Collaborative Knowledge Graph linking complex, multi-domain data
- Project 18 – Mateo Boudet – Condeessi: a Conda-EESSI transpiler for increased software stack portability, performance and resilience
- Project 23 – Sabrina Jagot – Single-cell dataset integration across repositories and species for cell type homology analyses
- Project 28 – Anne Fouilloux – WeatherXBiodiversity: Exploring Harmonization of Cross-Domain Data into FAIR Digital Objects
- Project 30 – Solenne Correard, Clara Emery – BiCoReCa (Biodiversity Community Resource Catalogue): Towards Centralized Curation and Integration
These projects form part of the official selection for BioHackathon Europe 2026, which features around thirty projects covering various scientific and technological areas.
