Maturity: finalized

FAIR-Checker, developed by the Institut Français de Bioinformatique (IFB), is an online tool that facilitates FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) evaluation, indicator reporting and metadata quality improvement for life science web resources.

With a European scope, since it has been awarded the SDP ELIXIR label, FAIR-Checker is now widely used, with an average of 115,000 FAIR metrics assessments carried out every month in 2024.

Adopting the FAIR principles helps better address open science challenges and ensure greater data visibility and reuse. FAIR-Checker automates this assessment by checking the presence and structuring of metadata, the accessibility of web resources and their interoperability with other systems. By identifying areas for improvement, the tool helps users to make their data more compliant with FAIR standards and optimize its distribution.

FAIR-Checker uses Semantic Web technologies to verify that metadata uses recognized standards and ontologies, or controlled vocabularies.

Who is this tool for?

FAIR-Checker is aimed at researchers, engineers and data managers wishing to verify the level of “FAIRness” of their web resources; and at developers to explore and inspect the quality of exposed metadata.
