Project description
Standardization and accessibility of plant data remains a major challenge for agricultural research. The MIAPPE standard, developed within the transPLANT and ELIXIR-EXCELERATE projects, has significantly advanced the standardization of data capture, while the FONDUE implementation study has contributed to the integration of phenotypic and genotypic datasets. Nevertheless, challenges persist in achieving full compliance of plant data with the FAIR principles.
The Harvest project aims to address these challenges by making datasets (DROPS, AGENT) compliant with the FAIR principles with the latest version of MIAPPE, which now covers more diverse and complex use cases. This process will include enriching the MIAPPE documentation with sample datasets, updating training materials, and improving mappings to other interoperable formats such as BrAPI, Bioschemas, and ISA-Tab/JSON.
The project also aims to establish links using FAIDARE to repositories such as EMBL-EBI EVA, e!DAL-PGP, recherche.data.gouv and Zenodo, in order to improve data sharing and reuse opportunities. An extension of the RDMkit Plant Sciences pages will be implemented to serve as a central hub for information on the FAIRification of plant data.
Participation of ELIXIR-FR
- Activity 1: FAIRification of existing datasets (lead)
- Activity 2: Update documentation on standards, research data management guidelines and checklists
- Activity 3: Extending the FAIDARE Plant Data Discovery Portal with New RO-Crate Resources
- Activity 4: Extension of FAIDARE indexing (using PLANTdataHUB as a use case), extension to other relevant prepared repositories (Dataverse, Zenodo)
