FAIR-Checker, a service developed by the French Institute of Bioinformatics (IFB), is an online tool that facilitates evaluation based on FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles, reporting metrics, and improving metadata quality for life science web resources.
With a European reach, being part of Service Delivery Plan (SDP) ELIXIR-FR, FAIR-Checker is now widely used, with an average of 115,000 FAIR metric evaluations performed each month in 2024.

For whom?

FAIR-Checker is aimed at researchers, engineers and data managers wishing to verify the level of “FAIRness” of their web resources; and at developers to explore and inspect the quality of exposed metadata.

How is it useful?

Adopting the FAIR principles helps better address open science challenges and ensure greater data visibility and reuse. FAIR-Checker automates this assessment by verifying the presence and structure of metadata, the accessibility of web resources, and their interoperability with other systems. By identifying areas for improvement, the tool helps users make their data more compliant with FAIR standards and optimize their dissemination.

FAIR-Checker leverages Semantic Web technologies to verify that metadata uses recognized standards and ontologies or controlled vocabularies.

How to access it?

FAIR-Checker is accessible online without prior installation. Simply enter a URL or provide a metadata file to get an instant assessment.
